Few fashion choices are more personal than eye-wear. The choice to wear the up-sweeping frames known as ‘cat eyes’ is a bold one. My paternal grandmother and one of my aunts were loyal fans.

The form is closely related to the browline style, differentiated by having an upsweep at the outer edges where the temples or arms join the frame front.

My maternal grandmother, on the other hand, preferred the more sedate browline frames. So did Malcolm X.
