Dad got the just-right dose of quintessential Pacific Northwest climate when he visited central Oregon for the USDA in the mid-1960’s. The drama of Willamette Falls and the surrounding timber economy is made more beautiful by the darkening skies and the gunmetal blue river.
Hard as it is to image, President Herbert Hoover had only recently died when Dad visited Hoover’s boyhood home. Depression-era policies and their authoring politicians probably still weighed heavily on the minds of adult Americans in those days.
